Amsterdam gaat elektrisch

In Amsterdam ligt er een ambitieus plan op tafel om elektrisch rijden in de stad te promoten. In 2040 moet het mogelijk zijn al het vervoer in de stad elektrisch te maken. Tegen 2011 worden al 200 oplaadpunten geplaatst langs de straat, bij bedrijven en gemeente, en op parkeerplaatsen.
De huidige generatie elektrische wagens heeft een bereik van ongeveer 170 km, ideaal voor stadsverkeer. Ook elektrische brommers kunnen gebruikt worden in de stad. Elektrisch stadsverkeer leidt tot minder emissies en lawaai, wat allebei problemen zijn in een grootstad. Mooi initiatief, daar kunnen we in België wat van leren!

Man van het jaar 2009 – de rekening in 2012 ?

Het is weer de periode van het jaar dat lijstjes worden gemaakt. Eén van de meer illustere lijstjes is dat van Time Magazine. De eerste “figuur van het jaar” bij het Amerikaanse blad, was Charles Lindbergh, vorig jaar werd Obama verkozen.
Time Magazine heeft Ben Bernanke gekozen omdat hij de economie heeft gered van veel erger, hij heeft een grote depressie afgewend klinkt het.
But the main reason Ben Shalom Bernanke is TIME’s Person of the Year for 2009 is that he is the most important player guiding the world’s most important economy. His creative leadership helped ensure that 2009 was a period of weak recovery rather than catastrophic depression, and he still wields unrivaled power over our money, our jobs, our savings and our national future. The decisions he has made, and those he has yet to make, will shape the path of our prosperity, the direction of our politics and our relationship to the world.
Ik denk dat Time Magazine een logische keuze maakt met Bernanke. 2009 was het jaar van de economische implosie, en Bernanke was één van de hoofdrolspelers in het verhaal. Groei betekent nog geen herstel

Nico Tanghe van De Standaard gaat dieper in op de hoera-berichten over de conjunctuur, en zet ze af tegen de structurele problemen. Onder de titel “roze bril en oogkleppen” geeft hij terecht tegengewicht aan het myope optimisme van economen en politici:
Het was eind vorige week plotseling groot nieuws. De grootbanken hebben hun groeiprognose voor de Belgische economie in 2010 verhoogd tot gemiddeld 1,5 procent. Dat is fors meer dan de voorspelling van de Nationale Bank, die het bij een economische groei houdt van 1 procent.

Know how to create is the road to wealth

In the book Econoshock, I defend the thesis that the best way for a country to achieve a prosperous economy, is to go for creative industries. This is the basis for exports and sustainable growth.
A recent research paper defends this thesis: Do Countries Exporting More Manufactured Products Grow Faster? written by Takuji Kinkyo.
We found a significant and positive relationship between the exogenous component of manufacturing export share and growth rates. The results are robust to the inclusion of a range of growth determinants, including exchange rate undervaluation and trade openness. Importantly, the growth promoting effect of manufacturing export share operates only for developing countries.

Vandaag en morgen is er het Congres van de Stichting Marketing in Gent.
Morgen, zaterdag 5 december, geef ik een lezing over loyauteit. Het wordt aangekondigd als:

Maar in de afgelopen maanden zijn we met ons Econopolis team steeds enthousiaster geworden over dit congres, en de gelegenheid te mogen spreken voor marketeers. We hebben dus een wat ruimere visie gebouwd rond de crisis, de trends die belangrijk zijn voor de marketeers, en hoe je van de economische problemen je voordeel kan halen.
