More shocking is the penetration of mobile broadband in Belgium.

(chart is one year old, but I believe it still reflects the current situation)

There are billions to be made of mobile internet services. Unfortunately it looks like Belgium won't be the best country to start rolling out your service. As usual.

It's clear from the graph that it's the countries with Fiber which lead the technological innovations.
How does Kris Peeters intend to realise Flaanderen in Actie on Belgacom's internet speed and technology?

Japan has HD TV since the 1990s and leads in the related technology regarding TV and recording devices. Our backwardness has hurt Philips position in the market and made it more or less irrelevant.
Mobiles operating on GSM networks are a thing of the past, except for in Europe - we are becoming the perfect market for old technology at premium prices.
What kind of innovation can we be expected to drive under those conditions?

Dient deze grafiek niet gecorrigeerd te worden met de gemiddelde gezinsgrootte?

ps per 100 inwoners 30 abonnementen, gemiddeld 3 inwoners per gezin? => 90 % van alle gezinnen heeft een breedband verbinding????

Broadband penetration is an indicator that only looks at the past.
I think "broadband quality" is a much more important indicator to learn about the future of broadband in Belgium.

Broadband quality in Belgium today is really bad, we still have download quotas, very slow upload speed and a lot of slow DSL connections.
Almost 100% of broadband connections in Belgium is using "old technology" like cable and DSL. Fiber to the home does not even exist in Belgium.

The following two presentations are focussing on "broadband quality" and are worth looking at are:
    Broadband Quality Study 2009: http://slidesha.re/2Ly9r0
    The Last Generation Network: http://slidesha.re/baEJm4

    @raf

Telenet is introducing fiber next month:

Still, it's pretty late, quiet expensive, and not available to everyone it seems.

And while we are looking forward to this Telenet Fiber, in the US Google is already rolling out networks that are 10 times faster.

@pminne Telenet is not introducing fiber to the home, they call their product "fibernet" but it's just another cable technology with limited upload and download speeds.
